People who may have been excited to play with Google Wave but who, like me, would appreciate a user guide, will be happy to know that The Complete Guide to Google Wave is now available for free online.

Google Wave is supposed to free us from our preconceived notions about communicating and collaborating with people online, but these may be difficult to shake off since we’re all used to e-mail. It’s supposed to give us the freedom we need to use it as a tool in different ways, but let’s be honest, sometimes we want someone to teach us how to float first instead of just pushing us into the deep end of the pool. After all, as the guide notes, Google Wave is “notoriously difficult to understand“.

Obama calls Kanye West ‘jackass’: ‘Off the record’ in the age of Twitter

Most people would probably agree with what US President Barack Obama called singer Kanye West after the latter ruined Taylor Swift’s moment at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Obama’s “jackass” comment, however, was supposed to be off the record, but it ended up on Twitter (the post has since been taken down). This once again shows the impact of New Media and microblogging tools such as Twitter on mainstream media and the rules that have governed traditional media coverage. In fact, the incident is provoking a debate on standards for journalism in the age of Twitter.
